From the MLEF

September 2015

Dear Mountain Lakes Community,

Thank you for taking the time to access our website. We are so proud of our town and school system and love working with the community to keep it going strong. The Mlef has been around for 8 years and in that time we have grown tremendously. In the past 3 years, we have awarded grants worth over $112,000 to our three schools!

Our biggest contribution thus far is the MLHS On-line Academy. The MLEF was able to fund the Academy over $80,000.00 because of your generous donations and the Casino Night and Gala Fundraisers.

The MLHS On-line Academy is exactly the kind of project the Foundation was created for. Did you know that in 2013 69.1 % of higher education institutions reported that on-line education is critical to their long-term strategy! Without MLEF, the district risks maintaining current standards and falls short on being able to fund many new programs required to prepare 21st century learners! When other schools are only just beginning to think about how technology is affecting the education system, MLHS has implemented a program where our students now have multiple advantages to pursue their interests and build digital badges.

Another important Grant the MLEF was able to support last year was the “Opposing View Points” project created by Mr. Posner, Briarcliff Librarian and Ms. Pecarific, 8thGrade Language Arts Teacher. This new grant will allow Mr. Posner and Ms. Pecarific to purchase resources to overhaul the Annual 8th grade February Research Paper Assignment. Every student from the 8th grade down will benefit. Newly implemented Common Core Standards have increased expectations for reading non-fiction and our school is ready!

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. It is only a small window into the MLEF, I hope you will continue to support the Foundation, and of course, consider becoming a volunteer!
Yours truly,

the Mountain Lakes Educational Foundation
